Accepting Applications for the 2013 Scholarships
Do YOU display Dan's characteristics of determination, desire, good sportsmanship & community involvement?The Dan Snyder Memorial Scholarship is now accepting applications the 2013 scholarships. As in past years there will be one recipient from each of the following three categories: 'Elmira Sugar Kings', 'Woolwich Minor Hockey' and 'Woolwich Community at Large'. We are currently soliciting nominations of candidates who are residents of the Township of Woolwich who display Dan’s characteristics of determination, desire, good sportsmanship and community involvement. All successful candidates must be enrolled in a qualified accredited post secondary institution and funds are deposited directly to the school the recipient will attend that fall, under the direction of the K-W Community Foundation.

Banner Raised for 2001 Solar Bears Champions
It took 12 years, but the championship banner was finally raised. A few years before Dan was called up to play in the NHL, he was a key part of the 2000-01 IHL Turner Cup championship team. The Solar Bears claimed the Turner Cup by beating the reigning champion Chicago Wolves, but the celebrations came to an abrupt halt when the IHL folded shortly thereafter. The championship banner would have to wait 12 full years before the ECHL Solar Bears finally hoisted it to the rafters at the Amway Centre in Florida on February 2, 2013.

2012 Scholarship Winners Announced
Two outstanding local athletes receive scholarships for fall studiesLuAnn and Graham Snyder presented former Sugar Kings forward Andrew Smith and St. Clements ringette’s Samantha Nosal with Dan Snyder Memorial Scholarships in early August. A former player with the Sugar Kings for four years, and a member of the Canadian Junior ringette team, Smith and Nosal were clearly deserving of the awards.

Dan's Memory Lives on in Winnipeg
Dan Snyder Memorial Trophy presented on April 7th, 2012After the conclusion of their final home game on April 7th, the Winnipeg Jets continued a very important part of Atlanta Thrasher history. The Dan Snyder Memorial trophy was presented to defenceman Mark Stuart, a player "who best embodies perseverance, dedication and hard work without reward or recognition so that his teammates might succeed." The Snyder family was pleased to attend the presentation in honour of their son's memory, and is grateful to the Jet's organization for their continued support of this important tradition.

Memorial Cabinet Complete in the WMC
The rink that bears his name now houses a memorial cabinet dedicated to Dan SnyderAlthough the main ice pad in the Woolwich Memorial Centre bears Dan Snyder's name, the Snyder family wanted to give the community a chance to learn more about Dan. The Snyder family commissioned a craftsman to create a very special memorial cabinet for public access on the second level of the Dan Snyder Memorial Arena. The cabinet provides a lasting acknowledgement of the many individuals, teams and businesses who supported the WMC fundraising drive.

Sponsors Woolwich Minor HockeyA variety of training aides help player conditioning on and off the ice In late August, the Woolwich Hockey Academy offered two weeks of summer camp designed to get young players ready for the fall hockey season. The Academy offered both on-ice and off-sessions each day, and 37 Rising Stars was pleased to sponsor all training aides used on the ice and off, with the agreement that the aides would be donated to Woolwich Minor Hockey at the close of the camp, for use by all WMHA coaches.

2011 Scholarship Winners
Three deserving recipients were presented with a Dan Snyder Memorial Scholarship Each year, the Dan Snyder Memorial Foundation awards local athletes with a financial grant toward their post-secondary studies starting in the fall. For 2011, one award was granted in the "Sugar King" category, and two awards were given in the "Woolwich Community" open category.

Midget Boys Qualify for ChampionshipElmira 37's midget boys softball team qualified for the home the Eastern Canada ChampionshipWhen the Elmira 37's Midget boys softball team qualified for the Eastern Canadian Championship for the first time ever, they need financial aid to make the trip. With a very short amount of time to raise funds, the team turned to 37 Rising Stars for help. After all, the Dan Snyder Memorial Fund exists to assist young athletes achieve their goals and dreams.
